I've got to find a copy of Food, Inc. I was hoping RedBox had it, but no. I may just have to visit Blockbuster.

Great ideas! I'm all for eating less meat (especially after watching Food Inc.) and know it would really reduce the food budget for our family of 6. I like the idea of having a set food budget and giving to others whatever is left over. That would really make me think more about my purchases. Thanks for the great post!

In SD I would sometimes get meat on clearance and then freeze it. I don't usually buy whole chickens, but only because I don't like taking them apart! :o

We gave Joey fish this week and I wasn't sure he'd like it, but he did! Score one for us!

Sometimes when I read what you post, I think we are so much alike it's scary. We do pretty much the same things you do to save on the grocery budget. Unfortunately, the husband likes meat. I have found one way to save is to buy meat whole. A whole chicken is cheaper than pieces, we can eat on it several times or use the leftovers for homemade chicken noodle soup. We have a chest freezer so I will try to find meat on sale (it's cheaper in large packages) and freeze it in smaller packages for later use.
By the way, Susanna eats everything we eat too, just found out this week that she is a fan of roasted, fresh asparagus; no picky eaters here :-)
