Living for the Kingdom

by Jessica on February 2, 2010

As I was writing last week on living on less, I got to thinking about how living for the kingdom doesn’t just magically happen. It must be purposeful.

This particularly struck me as I was writing on living debt free. So many of the points there translate into how we should also be living for the kingdom of God.
If we believe our life really belongs to God, then we should live as such. We should question the choices we make, the attitudes we take on, and the ambitions we pursue.
  • Do they grow us in our own sanctification?
  • Do they glorify God?
  • Do they seek to enlarge the kingdom of God and make His name known?
  • Do we need them?
  • Do they benefit and encourage others to seek God?
  • Are we seeking to make much of ourselves or much of God?
  • Do we spend more of our life on the things of this world or the things of God?
God’s economy really is different than this world’s. He cares about that which is eternal. And so should we.

But how does that play out in our daily lives? That’s what I’ve been thinking about this week. How am I living intentionally for the kingdom of God? Am I embracing the roles he’s placed me in as wife and mother? Am I embracing the season? Do I seek to serve and embrace those who come across my path? Or am I a woman on a mission ignoring all but my to do list?

So, this week I’m considering the areas I need to grow in to live purposefully and intentionally for the kingdom of God so that I might say,

“Your kingdom come Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

Matthew 6:10

How have you purposed to living intentionally for the kingdom this week? Month? Year?

Excellent post, my friend! We so often are preparing or waiting for the next season or event and so we forget that we are called to live now.
