{day 21} Always the Leader

in 31 Days to Significance

You can’t not be in charge. Do you know that feeling?

The urge to say, “Here just let me do it.” Or having to know every detail of an event…perhaps even have your hand in each arena of planing. Maybe you know a better way to execute a plan and wiggle your way so that your plan becomes the plan.

Don’t know anyone like that? Yeah…me too.

But the truth is when we hold tight the reigns of control, when we can’t let another lead…

we break community,

we make everything dependent on us,

we work and work and work and work…no rest,

we don’t trust others and how God is leading them,

and ultimately we believe, by evidence of our actions,

we can do a better job than God.

Of course, we’d never really admit that.

When we always have to be in control, if we’re not comfortable unless the power is in our hands…there’s a problem.

We’re seeking to fill something or be seen as something apart from God’s grace. We’re aiming to find our significance in a way that God did not deem as good.

It may bring us temporary satisfaction and pleasure, but it will never satisfy.

We’re 1/3 of the way through a 31 Day Journey of Significance. Over the past couple of days, we’ve looked at different attitudes of insignificance. In the next two days, we’re going to look at what we should do when we recognize these attitudes in our lives.

******

Other attitudes of insignificance:

{day 17} Gripping the Millstone – Bitterness & Resentment

{day 18} When Self Reigns – Selfishness & Self-promotion

{day 19} When the Mirror Spits Back – Insecurity

{day 20} Dressed in Mourning – Despair & Hopelessness
