As children of God, much favor has been bestowed on us. The favor of the Lord is unique. It is not wavering as the favor of man which changes quickly (James 2:2-3). The favor of God is rooted in what He has done.
We cannot increase God’s favor toward us. We cannot be better and gain more favor. It’s a gift. It’s not earned. It’s grace.
The favor of God is based on him and not us. The Hebrew word for favor is chen, from a root meaning “to bend or stoop.” It is closely related to grace, “the unmerited favor of a superior person to an inferior one.” God is bending down and giving us that which we do not deserve.
Living in the favor of God is seeing His greatness, appreciating His worth, and loving Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength.
It’s depending on God’s character, even when every earthly piece of evidence says otherwise.
It’s trusting God has called us and will equip us for what He was planned.
It’s being absolutely confident that God will come through.
It’s leaning into Jesus and appropriating His work on the cross to our daily lives.
It’s delighting in the Lord.
Food for Thought:
How would your life look different if you lived daily with absolute confidence in God?
What would it be like to stop believing the lies of insignificance and quit living by the measurements of the world?
What changes might need to take place in your life to live in this favor of God?
