I was working on my Montessori blog today and it made me miss (some) of the days from teaching preschool. Kids are wonderful…sometimes they make you feel a little crazy and other times they warm your heart.
We were singing this song in Bible circle today,
I turned to the left and heard one of my cute little students singing, “I’ve got joy in the Lord, and He is my stripes.” It was so cute! But that’s true also…in a way. We were healed by His stripes.

Recently, on one of our summer travels I got to thinking about when Jesus was a baby. It was, you know, one of those times where we were in the car driving and Joey’s just screaming and, of course, we had hours to go. It was there that I began to think…
When Jesus was a baby…did he scream when he was teething? Did he sleep through the night consistently? Or did Mary and Joseph have to take turns making circles around their home in efforts to get him back to sleep? Did Mary worry if the neighbors could hear him scream? I know I do. I think we’re going to be those “annoying neighbors upstairs” in our building.
When Jesus was a baby, do you think he got fussy? Did he fall asleep at nap time or wake-up every time he was laid down? Did Mary ever feel like she just had had enough? Did he make funny faces when his parents fed him new foods?
I know Jesus is the perfect Son of God, but this summer I’ve wondered how aware of his deity was Jesus as a baby?
Did he know when he was crawling around putting dirt in his mouth, that he was the way, the truth, and the light? Did he know he would be the one child in the world who would grow-up completely sinless?
Even as I think of that I wonder, how did Mary (and Joseph) handle raising a son they knew was the Son of God, the prophecied and promised Messiah? Were there times when the constant whiny babble grated on their nerves and then they remembered that those annoying sounds weren’t just their baby, but their Lord? Talk about having a hard time handling parental stress!
Okay, this is a little joke…but can you see little baby Jesus like one of those babies on the eTrade commericals when Mary’s having a rough day going, “It’s okay Momma. Just tell me about it. I’ll carry all your burdens.”
But, seriously! When Jesus was a baby, what was he like?
